Alan Bines is now the new Chairman of FoSS and Peter Cox is now our Archivist. Both Peter and Bob Preston would like to hear from anyone who has old photographs of the station or stories from the time they used to travel on it before it was closed in 1971.

New GWR chairs arrive at Stogumber

  Here are two of the four GWR chairs that we have had restored. They really look the part. Any visitors this month will be treated to a warm fire on cold days and bacon rolls while stocks last.

Here are a few of those moments when we catch people off guard. We see our bakery chef, Gil, taking a much earned rest. When asked how she copes with all the baking, she responded "Oh, it's a piece of cake!" We are still selling Gil's cakes at the Autumn Gala. In the centre are Station Master, Alan Bines and his wife Maggie with Rita and Mike, caption : "We are really busy!" The other caption could be "Quick, it is not raining". and here is our other Station Master, Bob Preston, just before the visit with the caption : "So this is retirement!" This is the only moment we have seen Bob sitting all week. What are these three cooking up? (Maggie, Jen and Gil) Answer : Bacon for the rolls. We will be selling our famous Bacon Rolls at the Autumn Gala, see you there? ..... and of course our special guest! Thank you to Alan Bines, Peter Cox and Robin White for the photographs.

Flying Scotsman pictured arriving in West Somerset on Wednesday. As both Minehead and Bishops Lydeard stations will be closed to all people without tickets, what better place to see this famous engine than Stogumber Station.

Lamp post looking for a friend!

This is a lovely little story to demonstrate the extent we go to in order to preserve and restore Stogumber Station. We intend to buy a twin lamp, to be sited on the other side of the barrow crossing. It will be specifically manufactured for us at a cost of £1000 for lamp and lantern. New Stationmaster for Stogumber

We are pleased to announce the appointment of a new stationmaster at Stogumber Station. Bob Preston, a Stogumber resident and long standing volunteer at the station, is now assuming responsibility for the running of the station, with Alan Bines as his assistant. "Bob is a great asset to Stogumber Station and will oversee the running of the day to day operations and ensuring we continue to preserve this historic building for visitors and railway travellers", said Colin White, Treasurer of Friends of Stogumber Station, the organisation which runs the station.

A dull, rainy June day at Stogumber Station...but the British spirit of making the most of the great outdoors didn't get in the way of a delicious pasty and a cream tea!

The photo was taken during truly miserable wet weather on 28 June, when Pam Richards, a Stogumber resident and her family who were visiting from Canada insisted on eating outside in the rain!
